Blindside!!!

Two friends and I drove to Kansas City last night to see a concert - The Sound and the Fury, Blindside, and Trapt. It was INCREDIBLE! We'd never heard of the first band, because they were local, but they played an excellent, hard rockin' set. Their bald bassist was really crazy up there and he talked to us as we were leaving. We told him they should come play in Lincoln sometime and he said he'd like to. Maybe he was being polite, I don't know, who cares. He saw my Huskers shirt though, and said "I love corn!" That was pretty sweet. Blindside played for only 40 minutes, but it made the 3 hour drive down there WELL worth it. They played songs from their last three albums, and boy HOWDY did they ROCK. Some crazy kids decided to mosh (though according to my friend, it wasn't "real moshing") and that was pretty distracting. It kinda took away a little of the experience for me, but it's alright now. After their amazing set, we went and talked to some of the guys in the band (all but the drummer actually) for a little bit. We got a couple to sign our tickets, even though the tickets only say Trapt. Of course we couldn't think of any good questions to ask (say, for example, what does Blindside MEAN), but it was still really cool to talk to the guys in my favorite modern rock band. That pretty much made my day/week/month! We stuck around for a few Trapt songs, which weren't bad. In fact, they were quite good as well, but as none of us were really excited for Trapt, we took off early and got back to the dorms around 2:30. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Blindside

I don't think anyone at UNL reads this, but if anyone wants to go to a Blindside concert, talk to me! Wooo Blindside ROCKS!

One Word - - - Styx!

I went to a Styx concert tonight and it was amazing! I don't care how much you make fun of them, they put on a rockin' show! They played all the classics of course (except for Mr. Roboto), some excellent cover songs from their new album, and a medley of 18 other Styx songs (including a tiny bit of Mr. Roboto). We got good seats, this time (as in, we actually had seats). We had to go an hour and a half early, but it was worth it.

The rest of the State Fair was a rip-off, like all fairs are, but I tied the record of the day in the baseball throw (72 mph - they tell me those speeds are wrong, I don't know). You had to make 80 to win a prize and it cost $5 for three tosses. Ouch. Lame. Anywho, that's the best I've ever done at one of those things, so that's cool I guess.

STYX!!! WOOOOO

Two Down...

Well, that's two weeks of school done. Wow they've gone fast. I mean it seems like I just got here the other day and already it's been two weeks. More importantly, the first football game is tonight! We play Maine, but I know I'm still going to enjoy the game. My homestate versus my new state! How symbollic is that? If you hadn't heard (i.e. I didn't tell you) I was on ESPN Sportscenter Wednesday. Yeah get over it already I know, but it was exciting! School is going very well. Nothing too hard yet, met lots of people, and rarely have I been bored. There's always something to do here. Football, sand volleyball, soccer, racquetball, basketball, ping pong, swimming, other sports, cards, movies, TV, homework (notice its place in the list...heh heh), wandering around (this is one of my favorites), talking to people, and hundreds of other things. I love it here!

Foreigner!

Well I went and saw Foreigner at the Nebraska State Fair last night. It was only a mile or so from my dorm and the only cost was fair admission ($5). It was an excellent show. I wasn't too impressed at first, but it got better in the second half of the concert. The drummer they had there was Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham of Led Zeppelin fame. That was really cool. They did a tribute to John by playing Misty Mountain Hop. That made my day. Second time I've heard that song covered this summer - nothing wrong with that! They played all the classics, Long Way From Home, Cold as Ice, Hotblooded, Blue Morning, Jukebox Hero, and others. Aside from standing the whole time surrounded by cowboys and people with beer and cigs in the same hand, it was an awesome experience. They're not the Eagles, but hey! they're famous!

School...

I haven't been posting much here, but don't worry, I'm still alive. School's been good, about like I expected, maybe better. My lab last night was definitely better than I expected. I only have one more class that I haven't been to yet, and that's tomorrow. Should be a pretty easy one. I don't know what to say...blah blah blah...only 9 days until the first football game!

In Lincoln

Well, I'm finally moved in and online down in Lincoln. It's amazing and I love it! Class starts tomorrow (well today I guess) at 9:30. Woohoo!

Farewell!

Well, as most of you (ha! thanks for reading this!) already know, I left for Nebraska today. We took off at 10 and got to the farm at 8 or 9. I'll be here until Friday, when I move into Neihardt Hall! Yeeeehaw. Well, call me. I'll talk to you. Yeeeehaw.

Weather

It's summer...so why is it 55 degrees outside? Anybody? Gah!

My Schedule

Well I leave Tuesday for Nebraska. We're going to visit some family before they drop me off (although I'll have my car there) in Lincoln. Awhile ago though, I made a spreadsheet of my semester one schedule and now I've resaved it as a webpage. So anyone interested can look at it here. Enjoy.

Pooh

How lame, the link doesn't work. Oh well, the point is that there is ALWAYS another point of view, usually many, and that we should be open to them. Nobody can make you believe their point of view, but they can sure try to convince you, and there's nothing wrong with that. Try to keep an open mind and remember that you may not always be right. Of course being "right" is simply a matter of perception, but there are some things that most of the world can agree on being right. So please don't blindly shoot down other people's points of view or criticize them just because they think differently than you. Just remember that no two people are alike and that that includes thought processes and morals. Treat people with respect in general, and see what happens. Not only will you feel better, but you will gain respect as well. Also, eat lemon whip pie. It's delicious.

Points of view...

Here's a good illustration of points of view: Forrest goes to Heaven

Alcohol...

The problem is not alcohol. Jesus drank wine and he turned out OK. Alcohol is socially acceptable, so those who care about that sort of thing don't feel out of place. Almost all cliques, groups, ethnicities, religions, etc. drink. Very few people are for totally prohibiting it anymore. The problem, as I see it, is people who drink to get drunk or who think they're good to go after having "just a little." You've heard it a million times, but drinking and driving is just retarted. That's all there is to it. Is it really worth the risk of ruining/ended your life or someone else's? No, it's not. Come on. When you're drunk, they tell you not to drive because your judgement is impaired. By judgement, they don't just mean how well you can deal with traffic and the road, but how well you deal with other people. You may do something you regret. Aside from driving, the first two that come to mind are fighting and sex. Random sex is not good. Think hard about it and deep down you just might discover that, hey, it's not worth it. It's possible you don't even know the other person, you probably won't remember it, you could get any number of infections, and rumors could be spread. Save sex for TRUE love, Please. Do you really want to get into a brawl either? It's easy to get hurt/hurt someone when you're drunk because, again, you're judgement is impaired. "Hey, you're shoelaces look funny!" "BRING IT PUNK!" Don't laugh, dumber reasons have led to senseless drunken brawls. Is it worth the feeling of drunkenness to wake up with broken bones, scars, or even some bruises? Is it? I know I can't make choices for you, so please, just THINK when you drink. Yes it's a commercial slogan, but it's very consequential. Drink to enrich your life, not to define it (good old Italian job...). If you don't like the taste of beer, for instance, don't drink it because it's cheap and that's what the rest of the country drinks. We are slaves to beer in America. It seems every other radio/TV commercial is a beer spot. I say, if you don't like it, don't "acquire" a taste for it, drink something else, alcoholic or not. If you do like beer, pleeease drink in moderation. You've got years and years to enjoy it, why limit yourself by going all out? If you're still reading, thank you. I'm just a silly guy with alot of crazy ideas, but I believe what I believe and nobody can take that away from me, not even you. I want our society to improve, and I think the best way to go about that is to instill a little bit of common sense into everyone. But then again what do I know? Nothing in the big scheme of things. And how many people are going to read this? I'd say three or four if I'm lucky. But if I can change even a little bit the thinking of one person for the better (again, who's to say what's better and what's not?), then this will all have been worth it. So I conclude, PLEASE drink in moderation and not to get drunk. And if you're under 21, don't get caught :P. I don't believe the drinking age is fair, but the truth of the matter is you can get into trouble thinking like that. That sort of thing goes on your record and influences peoples' first impression of you (employers I should say). It may not be fair, but that's the way the world works in our day and age. I personally think that the BAC tests and sobriety checkpoints are a good idea: we need to protect the sober drivers from the idiots. But I also believe that the drinking age should be lowered to 18, or possibly 16. I don't like the arbitrary limit of 21 or the psuedo-blackmail by the highway department (at least in South Dakota) to force states to set the age at 21. I'm pretty sure most of Europe allows alcohol to individuals over the age of 18. Germany of course says 16, Italy 12 (I've heard), and apparently Britain doesn't have a restriction (of course that could be a total lie...). Canada and Mexico have both set the barrier at 18, so why can't our awesome country? Anywho, I'm just preaching to the choir (who all went home hours ago I might add) so I'll be done. Thank you so much for reading all of this, it means alot to me. Have a nice day and BE SMART!

The Outdoors

If you've ever camped, hiked, been cliffjumping, or otherwise spent time outdoors, it's a good idea for you to watch this. It's important to know what to do if being followed by a coyote. Thanks for Bret for showing me this clip in the first place.

Meanings...

If you look upsidedown at this post, you will discover the meaning of life. No joke. Would I lie?

The Brown Stripe

Some of you may be aware that there is a brown stripe on one wall of my bedroom. Many of you discouraged it, none of you have embraced it. This is my opinion. Forget you. HAHAHAHA it's my room (well I use this room the most...) and I LIKE the stripe. Thank you.
